Liverpool may be in a pursuit for the 53-year old manager, who has been a top one since a decade

Liverpool are in a hunt for their new manager after Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from the club. The 56-year-old, whose Reds contract was due to run until the summer of 2026, attributed his decision to “running out of energy”.

There have been many names floating in the market to replace Jurgen at Liverpool. Bayer Leverkusen boss, Xabi Alonso, is the most prominent one though but ESPN pundit, Ian Drake, has a different outlook. He believes that FSG may also have an eye for Diego Simeone.

The 53-year old has been the in-charge of Atletico Madrid for more than a decade now. Los Colchoneros have won two La Liga titles, two Europa League, a Copa del Rey and three super-cups under Simeone, as well as reaching two Champions League finals. Drake said,

I wasn’t suggesting for a minute that Diego Simeone should be the next manager of Liverpool, not at all. But they keep telling us it’s a data driven process measured against resources. They worked out when they hired Klopp.

If you look at Simeone, Atletico Madrid with Real Madrid and Barcelona to play, he’s got them to two Champions League finals, he’s won the title a couple of times, he’s won the Europa League, he’s operated at the top level for a decade.

So, though you might not like his style and the perception is of an ugly dark arts team, he is a manager who’s achieved a lot.”

Will Simeone be the right man for Liverpool to replace Jurgen?

The CV of the South American is certainly a big fit for someone to manage Anfield. However, his style of playing may not be the one fans will admire. His side is combative, tenacious and dark arts type. While on the other hand, Klopp is a free flowing style of a manager.

Xabi is regarded as the perfect fit for the managerial role with similar playing style. However, the question is, who would the Reds have as second-choice, third-choice and so on?
