Anfield is set to welcome Arne Slot as their new boss with Jurgen Klopp parting ways with the Reds. Liverpool are targeting Toulouse’s Logan Costa as their first signing under Slot’s era.

Klopp leaves Anfield as a Liverpool legend. The German won the Champions League and the first league title with the Reds in the Premier League era. Klopp has managed over 200 wins in 300+ games in-charge of Liverpool in the Premier League.

Since his appointment in 2021, Arne Slot successfully led Feyenoord to their 16th league title in 2022-23 season. Feyenoord are set to finish in second place this season under the Dutchman’s vision.

Why Logan Costa for Liverpool?

Joel Matip is expected to leave the Reds after the end of his contract this season. This would leave Slot with four other center-back options. Virgil Van Dijk, Jarell Quansah, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate will be at Slot’s disposal.

Liverpool will be pushing for a center-half especially with Konate injury prone and Quansah lacking experience. Henceforth, Arne Slot has identified Logan Costa as a key signing.

The 23-year old Cape Verde International impressed when Toulouse beat Liverpool in the Europa League. Costa managed 7 interceptions and recoveries and won 5 out of 6 defensive duels. Logan is currently valued at £6.8 million and could be a key signing for the Reds.

Is Costa the right fit for the Reds?

Liverpool defenders are expected to win aerial and defensive duels. They are also expected to help their team in pressing forward by intercepting and creating turnovers. Good vision and passing ability is also a required trait.

Logan Costa, Matthijs De Ligt, Sven Botman and Arthur Theate reportedly fit the profile. De Ligt has been a key player for Bayern and the Bavarians wouldn’t part ways with him easily. Likewise, Botman has played a crucial role in Newcastle’s defense, making him difficult to poach too.

The Reds could go for Arthur Theate, but, Logan Costa is available at a more reasonable rate. If a deal is signed and Costa hits the ground running, Liverpool fans will be over the moon.
