According to ESPN, Liverpool are interested in Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo. A recent report by Mundo Deportivo also suggested that Chelsea are also keeping their tabs open for Araujo. The 22-year-old has put on some really important performances for Barcelona in their tough times. However, his contract at Barcelona expires in June 2023. While the Catalans are finding it hard to renew the player’s contract because of his high demands and their financial crisis.

The Reds have identified him as their target to bolster their defense. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be easy for Liverpool as he is a regular starter for the new Barcelona boss Xavi. However, he will make a cheap option for Liverpool and other clubs to approach because of his expiring contract. Barcelona would also not like to lose a player with world-class potential. Following which they will try their best to renew his contract and keep him at the club.

Araujo has made 13 appearances this season which has led to attraction from many clubs for his signature. He has scored a few goals for Barcelona which highlights his aerial dominance and ability to get in good positions. Although both Liverpool and Chelsea have enough options in their squad but he would be a good option to replace some of the ageing players and bring more energy to the squad.

Why does Liverpool want Ronald Araujo?

Ronald Araujo is one of Barcelona’s young important players. He has shown his defensive abilities on various occasions. Araujo has saved a goal for Barcelona quite a few times. He is also been regarded to be a starter at the club in a few years. Many fans may also call him the replacement of Pique. No matter how Barcelona have struggled in the past few seasons Araujo has been one positive to take for the club.

In Barcelona’s recent Champions League game against Benfica, he played the game as a right-back and did a good job. Araujo is physically strong, very good in the air, and is very good at tackling. He also has a very good pace and most importantly he reads the game well and is present in good positions. The Uruguayan international is also a threat on set pieces and has got one goal this season to show for it. The 22-year-old can learn and thrive under Jurgen Klopp as the German manager will teach him a few techniques. Araujo will have mentors like Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip and that is a huge plus point for any young defender. However, he will face competition from Ibrahim Konate to start but that competition can make him work harder and improve faster.

It will not be easy for Liverpool to get the Barcelona defender

If Liverpool really wants the Barcelona defender, they will have to be very quick with the process. Chelsea’s interest makes it a little complicated for the Reds because the Blues are capable of offering him better wages than Liverpool. However, it also remains to be seen whether Araujo is ready to leave the Catalan club or not. He will have more game time at Barcelona than at Chelsea or Liverpool. So his preference can also affect this transfer instead of just the wages of the player.
