Liverpool to have a busy transfer window despite a steady squad

Initially, there were many speculations linking Liverpool to Nico Williams, however, the club have put their mind elsewhere. Reports have stated that the club are no longer in the race for the Athletic Bilbao winger. Williams has attracted several clubs with his display for Spain in the Euros. The 21-year-old had a great season with his club as well. Williams scored 5 goals and gave 11 assists in 31 La Liga appearances for Athletic Bilbao. His performances gained interest from several top clubs including Liverpool. Moreover, according to certain reports, the Reds saw him as an ideal option for their attack, however, Liverpool have a different agenda for this transfer window. Post Jurgen Klopp’s departure, a few top Liverpool players were said to walk out the door. Additionally, three star players whose contracts will end next year are Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Mohamed Salah is gaining heavy interest from Saudi Arabia

Although it will be a big blow for the new Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, to see three key players leaving, it could also be a fresh start. The club will surely not want to lose any of them but, they could be sold if no contract extensions are made soon. Even if Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk choose to stay, the Egyptian man’s possibilities of leaving are much more. A move to Saudi also seems beneficial for Salah as well as Liverpool at the moment. While the player will earn a huge amount if he moves to Saudi, even Liverpool could make a profit on the striker’s sale. One Saudi Pro League club that could make a bid for Salah this summer is Al-Ittihad. The club sent an offer for the forward last summer, but Liverpool rejected it. Additionally, along with Salah, another player who could leave Liverpool and move to Saudi is Alisson Becker.

Liverpool want to keep hold of Luis Diaz

Luis Diaz joined Liverpool on a six-year contract in 2022. With his current contract ending in 2027, several reports were suggesting that the player could exit Anfield this summer. However, Liverpool plan on keeping the Colombian forward for the season ahead. Diaz got interest from top clubs including Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona but, the player could continue his stay at Anfield. Additionally, the Reds do not have much to worry about the left wing as they have Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota to play in those positions. Thus, spending money on Nico Williams did not make much sense. It would only be sensible for the club to cash in for Williams if Diaz chose to leave. Luis Diaz has been a valuable player for Liverpool over the years. Moreover, he is currently representing Colombia on the international stage at the Copa America.

What did this former Liverpool striker say about Diaz?

The Reds had the opportunity of winning the quadruple last season. After winning the Carabao Cup, they were competing in the FA Cup, Europa League and were in the race for the Premier League title as well. Several football pundits believed Diaz was instrumental for the Reds last season. Moreover, former Liverpool striker John Aldridge wrote about Diaz’s performance in his column for the Liverpool Echo.

John Aldridge mentioned,

โ€œIf Liverpool didnโ€™t sign him then they wouldnโ€™t be where they are right now, Iโ€™m pretty sure of that. Heโ€™s helped us keep on top of achieving the quadruple. Heโ€™s been unbelievable since heโ€™s come in, but heโ€™ll get better.โ€

Although the Colombian has already been exceptional, the fans can be excited about what more he can give the club in the future.
