In the upcoming Game Week, Liverpool will be facing off against Crystal Palace at Anfield. While both the teams won their last match in a comforting manner of 3-0 each, both would be looking to gain points. Liverpool currently is in the 3rd place due to goal difference while being on 10 points. Whereas Crystal Palace is currently in the 11th position on 5 points after their win against Tottenham.
Liverpool is coming off a massive 3-2 victory against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League. While during that game, Liverpool had decided to rest certain players for their match against Crystal Palace. Some of these players included Virgil Van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Thiago. Due to this rotation, they can play a strong starting lineup to secure the win. Roberto Firmino hasn’t started since playing against Chelsea which shows a change within the system. Due to the player decrease in his output of goal and assist since the last few seasons.
Liverpool could be looking to make Diogo Jota the starting number 9 for the club from this season on. His stats this season won’t even shy away from the fact about how clinical he has been. The player has already scored 2 goals in the first 4 games of the season while starting in 3. He has also had a XA of 1.6 in the league. This shows that Diogo Jota is providing big chances to these other teammates. But they haven’t been able to be clinical enough to score.
Virgil Van Dijk would also mostly start after being rested mid-week. While the player isn’t back to being fully fit, there are signs of improvement by him after every game.
What Can Crystal Palace Do To Defeat Liverpool
Against Tottenham, Crystal Palace was the more attacking team while taking nearly 18 shots on goal. The club must realise that while Tottenham sat deep, Liverpool wants the ball. Due to this, they will be an intense emphasis on counter-pressing as well. To avoid this the club would be suited to play counter-attacking this game. While trying to make sure they are defensively quite a comeback and in a block. While Liverpool will look to play in a 4-3-3. To block the instant emphasis of crosses in the box, Crystal palace could play in a 4-4-2. By doing so they could rotate into a lob sided 4-3-3 when being attacked on side of the pitch.
