Liverpool are hosting Porto for their next Champions League fixture. The Reds have already sealed their place in the last 16 with a perfect win record winning 4 out of 4 matches in Group B.
Whereas, Porto are currently second on the table with 5 points above Atletico Madrid who are on 4 points. It would be a great achievement for Porto if they qualify for the last 16 ahead of Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.
As a result, the Portuguese side will push as hard as they can to secure a win at Anfield to see themselves in the best place possible. Although it will be very hard for them as many bigger clubs have come to Anfield and failed.
Liverpool vs Porto: Match Preview
The Reds sit comfortably at the top of the table having already qualified. Klopp will look forward to starting some young payers in the game as they face a run of fixtures. This would be a good opportunity to give young players some Champions League game time and experience.
Liverpool are on a very good run of form winning 4 out of 4 matches in the UCL. However, having lost against West Ham has not affected them a bit as they went on to thrash Arsenal 4-0. While they will look on to add on their 14-match unbeaten streak at Anfield.
An underperforming Atletico Madrid and AC Milan have given Porto a ray of hope. Although the Dragons are not known for their attacking play this season but they somehow sit 2nd in their group one point ahead of Atletico Madrid. They could have done a double over the Rossoneri as they took lead in the 6th minute via Luis Diaz. However, they failed to hold onto that lead when Chancel Mbemba scored an own goal in the 61st minute.
Porto comes off from a very good league win against CD Feirense thrashing them for a 5-1 win. Although they have just scored 3 in the UCL, they can use their league momentum against Liverpool. Porto should also be happy about the fact that they have just lost once in their last 6 away games.
Nevertheless, their track record against Liverpool hasn’t been very good. Back in September when Liverpool did not play their best team but still won 5-1 against Porto. However, Porto will have to play their best football regardless of what the track record says.
Curtin Jones, Roberto Firmino, Harvey Elliot will all be out of the squad for a long term whereas Diogo Jota will have to go through some tests after his collision with Aaron Ramsdale. Furthermore, James Milner and Naby Keita have slight chances of returning but there is nothing sure as of yet. Joe Gomez is also one loss Liverpool faces. However, Andy Robertson can return as he missed his trip to Arsenal. Ibrahim Konate, Neco Williams, Takumi Minamino, and Divock Origi all have high chances of starting the game against Porto.
Porto have a fully-fit squad ahead of their very important fixture. They also had the privilege to rest some of their key players on the weekend. Veteran Pepe is returning to the lineup in place of Fabio Cardoso while Luis Diaz is also likely to start. Mateus Uribe will be starting either with Sergio Oliveira or the former Liverpool man Marko Grujic.
Possible Liverpool line-up vs Porto
Alisson; Williams, Konate, Matip, Tsimikas; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Morton; Salah, Origi, Minamino
Possible Porto line-up vs Liverpool
Marchesin; Corona, Pepe, Mbemba, Sanusi; Otavio, Uribe, Oliveira, Diaz; Taremi, Evanilson
Liverpool 3-1 Porto
Although Liverpool will not be starting their first 11, they will still be the favourites to win this fixture. Nevertheless, Porto will be more motivated to win this one to get their first win against Liverpool and stay in the Champions League. There is a very slight chance of this going the other way but Liverpool must be knowing what they should do and avoid a shock to the world.
