This time it is serious and Ademola Lookman is back on the Premier League radar. Atalanta winger is in absolute fire in Serie A and Arsenal and Liverpool are leading the chase to secure the services of the winger. Lookman has gone from Premier League misfit to European headliner with 21 goal contributions this season.
While not waving its proverbial underpants, Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus are peeking through the transfer window like nosy neighbors too, Arsenal and Liverpool included. The Gunners and the Reds have started the bidding with a €60-65 million approach to entice back Lookman to England.
Why Arsenal Could Really Use Ademola Lookman
There’s yet hope for Arsenal fans. At the moment, every time the weight of North London is to be carried, Bukayo Saka has to pick up the burden. So while Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli spark moments of brilliance, it has been their kryptonite.
Lookman’s pace, creativity and idea of a goal could finally be putting a burden on Saka’s shoulders. What’s more, he is still learning the art of tactical discipline and that Arsenal’s wide play can sometimes lack it.
Liverpool’s Salah Successor or Jota’s Backup?
However, the situation at Liverpool is trickier. The Mohamed Salah contract saga is the drama in football, played out over multiple seasons, with taut scenes and too many twists — too much for any fan to watch without being utterly exhausted mentally and emotionally. Lookman could become a long term Salah successor or a reliable Diogo Jota stand in given his history of injuries even if he becomes an outcast.
Lookman is a proven option and Liverpool can also do with Luis Diaz’s future in doubt. In addition, what would chaotic Salah and Lookman swapping wings look like? The Premier League defenders would have to do so. The question is—will either club cough up €65M, or will they Look(man) the other way?
