Netherlands head coach Louis Van Gaal believes Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is good enough to play in the Premier League. The statement for Justin Timber comes amid interest from Manchester United.

The 20-year-old defender was a first-team regular for the Eredivisie champions during the 2021-22 campaign. He featured in 43 games across all competitions for Ajax under Erik Ten Hag. Timber since has been linked with a move to United. This move will also set up a reunion with Erik Ten Hag who is now the manager of United. Erik Ten Hag wants Timber to strengthen the weak defence of Manchester United. The defender is available for around £36m. He is under contract with Ajax until June 2024.
NATIONAL BOSS ENCOURAGES TIMBER TO MAKE THE MOVE TO PREMIER LEAGUE
Van Gaal, who was in charge of the Red Devils between 2014 to 2016 believes Timber has the quality to play in the Premier League. He also feels the defender must move to a team that assures him regular first-team football. Van Gaal is currently managing Timber in the Netherlands National team. Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Netherlands’ Nations League clash with Wales, Van Gaal said: “I think a player of [Timber’s] quality can play in the Premier League. That is not a problem.”If he has to make this big step now, that’s the question. “(If he does not play) then he is not so wise, I think. He has to play.”. Timber is set to play for his national team in Cardiff on Wednesday.
He has recently said, he will decide his future during the summer break. He said he will do it before pre-season starts. He also revealed his gut feeling will decide where his future lies this summer. At the moment, it looks like all United fans will be praying his gut feeling goes for Manchester United.
