Man City Academy Star Sends Heartfelt Message to Pep Guardiola

Manchester City Premier League season finale lacked memorable moments. But it held special significance for several young talents within the club.

City’s underwhelming 1-0 defeat to Brentford marked the conclusion of their third consecutive title-winning campaign. While the loss put an end to City’s impressive 25-match unbeaten run and prevented them from reaching the 90+ points mark. The final outcome was not a primary concern for manager Pep Guardiola.


The last match of the Premier League season for Manchester City may not have left a lasting impression. But it carried great importance for several promising young players in the club.

Concluding their successful third consecutive title-winning campaign. City experienced a lackluster 1-0 defeat against Brentford. Although this loss ended their impressive 25-match unbeaten streak and prevented them from reaching the coveted 90+ points mark. The final result was not of utmost significance to manager Pep Guardiola.


On the bench for Manchester City’s final Premier League match were Shea Charles, Alex Robertson, and Ben Knight. Additionally, academy graduates Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, and Rico Lewis were given the opportunity to play the full 90 minutes.

During the game, 19-year-old Shea Charles, a versatile player capable of contributing in both midfield and defense. Made his senior debut for Manchester City. He entered the field in the second half, replacing Nathan Ake.

In his post-match interview, Shea Charles expressed the significance of Pep Guardiola granting playing time to young players like himself. Highlighting the pride he felt in making his debut for his beloved club.

Charles shared his excitement, stating, “It’s a very proud moment. I’m a City fan growing up, so it’s a dream come true.” He emphasized the value of gaining experience during the game and the confidence it instilled in younger players within the academy.

Witnessing four City academy graduates on the field and a couple more on the bench was an inspiring sight for Charles, and he thinks it would provide a boost of confidence to his fellow teammates. Guardiola’s support and encouragement played a crucial role in Charles’ performance, as he felt empowered to showcase his abilities on the pitch.

Reflecting on his debut, Charles mentioned how he quickly settled into the game. As the style of play was similar to what he had experienced at the academy level. He aspired to follow in the footsteps of Rico Lewis, who had successfully transitioned from the City youth system to the first team earlier in the season.
