Real Madrid are on high alert now as Man United have issued their interest in Spanish left-back Miguel Gutiérrez. The Spanish giants are struggling with injuries this season and have almost all of their main defenders ruled out. They’ve decided to make a move for the Spanish left back who has impressed at the Catalan club.
On the other hand, Man United are also struggling defensively. They’re in a desperate need to sign a fullback. Amorim-ball needs a new left back for the club. Girona managed to kept the player at the club despite interests last summer, but with these two big clubs approaching the player, it might become difficult for them now.
Two Big clubs approaching: Should he join Man United or Real Madrid?
When clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United knock at your door, you listen to the call. Such is the reputation of these two gigantic clubs. Both of them desperately need a new left-back and it’s a guaranteed first team role for sure. Considering stability, the Spanish giants are way more settled and balanced than their English counterparts.
Man United under Amorim need a left back immediately. He deploys a 3-4-3 wide attacking formation which uses two wide wing-backs. Neither Luke Shaw nor Malacia is fit enough to play in that role soon enough. According to reports by the Goal, the Red Devils have been monitoring the player for some time now and are prepared to submit a bid next summer.
The 23-year old is a product of the Real Madrid youth academy. He rose through the ranks at La Fabrica. The biggest advantage for Madrid is that they’ve a buy back clause for the player worth €8 million. Carlo Ancelotti wants a new left back next summer, preferably Canadian fullback Alphonso Davies who’s contract is running down at Bayern Munich.
Given his previous past at Real Madrid and them being more balanced, it gives the Spanish giants a huge advantage over the club from British Isles. If the Madridistas decide to excercise the buyback clause, there’s little to no chance for Manchester United.
Understanding Miguel Gutiérrez
Miguel Gutiérrez is a very versatile full-back who can resist pressure from opposition effectively. He is defensively very solid, as I’ve seen him for Girona. With the winger not backing him up, he often ends up in 2v1 situations. However, he’s brilliant at tackling those situations.
The 23-year old is very calm in possession of the ball. He doesn’t shy away from taking risks in the pitch. The young lad’s got a great vision of pass as well making him a very good choice. His biggest trait is that he sticks to his position. Most full-backs are often out of their position leaving their teams prompt to counter attacks. However, Miguel is very disciplined in this respect.
He also possesses brilliant recovery pace. Whichever team he plays for will benefit a lot from this quality, reducing the chances of getting exposed on counter attacks.
Author’s Opinion:
I feel that if Real Madrid sign him, he’s going to become one of their future leaders in the future. There’s been some time when we’ve seen Spanish defenders ball out for the La Liga giants. However, Alphonso Davies is also a great option at that position.
Manchester United are still in a transition period and their story has been somewhat similar since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. Ruben Amorim is expected to turn things around and maybe Gutiérrez might turn out to be a good signing but their recent past with signings has been quite dodgy. Plenty of young footballers have dipped after joining United. This is why I feel that if Gutiérrez gets an option between Madrid or Manchester, he should join Madrid with his eyes closed.
