16-year-old from Portugal on the radar of giants such as Manchester City and Barcelona

Sana Fernandes, a 16-year-old striker from Sporting Lisbon is attracting interest from some of the top clubs in Europe. According to several reports, Barcelona and Manchester City have joined the race to sign the services of the young talent.

Transfer expert Ekrem Konur has reported that many clubs are interested in the signing of Fernandes from Sporting who has contributed 10 goals for the Portuguese side.

Born in Guinea, this teen prodigy can play on both the flanks and is seen as an exciting talent brimming with potential.

The youngster’s contract is going to expire this year. It has also been implied that there will be no transfer fees involved if a deal is reached before Fernandes has a chance to pen a new deal with the Green and Whites.

O Jogo, the Portuguese outlet backs up Konur’s story. Barcelona and Manchester City are admirers of the 16-year-old and could make a formal approach.

Both clubs want to bolster their youth teams and Fernandes is seen as a candidate that can help them achieve this. Fernandes can also fulfil his potential by representing the senior team of whichever club he chooses.

The city’s youth academy has recently produced Phil Foden as an impressive talent. Foden was instrumental in Manchester City winning the Premier League in the 2021-22 season. But Barcelona’s youth academy has the upper hand when it comes to producing youngsters.  La Masia’s track record is impeccable when it comes to the development of youngsters.

These might be some things that might appeal to Fernandes when it comes to choosing a club. Although, realistically speaking, first-team football at the big clubs might not be possible at this stage for the youngster.

Konur adds that the Bundesliga Pair of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have strengthened their offers to match the appeal of Barcelona and Manchester City.

The German teams have a brilliant track record of integrating youth players into the first team. In the past, the teams have provided pathways to the first team to the youngsters.

Atletico MadridNapoli, and Arsenal also want to sign the youngster. Though at this point, they are second fiddle to the signature of Fernandes.
