Manchester City‘s form has significantly dropped after the World Cup break. They are now second favorites to win the Premier League after Arsenal who are five points ahead of City.
City dropped points against Everton and Manchester United and had poor performances against Southampton in the league cup and in the first half against Tottenham Hotspur. Guardiola’s side looking shaky, the same side that dominated last season.
The Spanish manager criticized his players after a 4-2 win over Spurs. He said:
“We cannot deny how happy we are but we are far away from the team that we were, not in terms of play. We played well in the second half, but there were many things, the competitiveness in terms of what do we have to do that we are far away, far away.
“I don’t recognise my team. My team always have passion, desire, and run and everything.”
Some of the Manchester City players has suffered after coming back from the World Cup break
Since after the World Cup break, few of the City’s player has struggled for consistent form. Phil Foden is one man who is struggling to pick back the form that he left off before Christmas.
The England midfielder was a key player for Cityzens before heading to the World Cup with seven goals and three assists. Since after the World Cup he has only one goal contribution.
The player who has suffered the most is Bernardo Silva as he has gone 13 games without any goal contribution. Silva’s start to the season was pretty well, bagging two goals and five assists. But he seems to be out of form after not having scored since August and without an assist since October.
Silva was heavily linked with Barcelona while Guardiola claimed that he was happy to keep him. Now there are speculations being made about Silva’s future that he might end up joining Blaugrana in Summer.
