Many Manchester City players will be coming back from their international break. Players like Rodri, Phil Foden, and Kyle Walker are coming back after playing in the Euro 24 final. During the international break, the criticism for Pep Guardiola only increased without the Spanish manager stepping on the field. Many football fans were blaming Pep Guardiola for making the football boring due to his over complicated tactics. Manchester City faces Chelsea to begin their title race
Manchester City will begin their title race with a completely new Chelsea team. Last season, Chelsea and their manager Mauricio Pochettino were completely shut off by Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. Moreover, Chelsea’s best player last season was former Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer. Pep Guardiola must be the unluckiest guy in the world. All of his biggest competitors are his former friends just like Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta. However, it will be interesting to see how Chelsea will try to counter Manchester City and Erling Haaland this time.
Erling Haaland scored a hat trick against Chelsea in the pre season when Manchester City faced the London club. It is a big question whether Chelsea’s defense will be able to keep up with the giant scary striker. The biggest challenge will be for the new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca. After a poor pre season with Chelsea where they won only one match, this is a tough battle for the manager. During the pre season, the Chelsea squad looked lost and their was no signs of any tactics. Chelsea will need to work as team to beat Manchester City and not rely on individual brilliance.
Will Chelsea be able to clear up their mess?
Chelsea have a squad of 45 players this summer. Last season many Chelsea players were injured for the majority of the season. Some players like Reece James are still out due to injury and will not be available for selection on the matchday. The former Chelsea captain is suffering from a hamstring injury from the pre season. Chelsea are lucky their big signing Christopher Nkunku will be available for selection after being out for majority of last season. However, this is where problems arise for Chelsea and Enzo Maresca.
The Chelsea squad is already stacked in the attack position. Not only attack their midfield is also full of quality players. It will be a tough decision for Enzo Mareca to select his starting lineup for the big match. New signings like Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall can make their debut this weekend in the big match. However, players like Moises Caicedo did not get enough game time during the pre season. Manchester City are also full of team morale after winning the Community Shield against Manchester United on penalty shootout. We can also see many youngsters from Manchester City get their chance in this match.
