Manchester City left-back Sergio Gomez is back in Spain

Manchester City player Sergio Gomez is going to join the Spanish side Real Sociedad in the summer transfer window after both clubs agreed to the deal. So, the la Masia graduate is set to return to Spain once again. Last month both the club started the talk about the Spaniard’s potential move.

Sergio Gomez joined the Premier League champion Manchester City in 2022 on a four-year contract from Belgian side Anderlecht. Gomez was brought into the team as a replacement for Portuguese Joao Cancelo for the left-back position. Cancelo often spent loan spells in various clubs because of his playing different playstyle. Cancelo loved to go high on the pitch and sometimes go all the way to score goals. So, Pep Guardiola is looking for a new left-back and Sergio Gomez arrived in Manchester to replace Joao Cancelo.

But the plan did not go as it was expected. The Spanish left-back suffered several injuries making only 38 appearances over the two seasons including 15 appearances in the last season. Ultimately when Josko Gvardiol arrived in Manchester City, Sergio Gomez was getting less playing time. Gomez was part of Manchester City treble treble-winning season and the 23-year-old also won major trophies in his time at Manchester. He is delighted with his time under Pep Guardiola and also feels blessed to be a part of this club.

Sergio Gomez is now to join the Spanish side Read Sociedad. So the Spanish side has paid a transfer fee of 10M with a 30% sell-on clause to sign the 23-year-old. Real Socided already lost Kieran Tierney, who was the main left-back player for the team. But Tierney is back at Arsenal after his successful loan spell with the Spanish side. So, the club brought Sergio Gomez to replace Tierney.

This means the Spaniard now can expect more playing time under Imanol Alguacil. The club finished sixth place last season and earned a Europa League spot.

Sergio Gomez is delighted with his time in Manchester City and also praised his manager Pep Guardiola’s decision to sell him to a new club in this summer transfer window. As per Goal, the Spaniard expressed his feelings and said on BBC Sport,

“Being part of such a talented, ambitious, and successful squad was a true honour, and winning a host of major trophies, including the Treble, is something I will never forget and will always look back fondly on. I am excited for this new adventure but I wish Pep Guardiola and the players every success in the future.”

So, Sergio Gomez is now looking for his new journey with Real Sociedad and is ready to give his hundred percent to his new club.
