Manchester City have made a decision on the future of Julian Alvarez at Etihad amidst interest from top clubs. The 24-year old forward has been a revelation in recent years winning all major trophies and ‘completing football’.
Manchester City endured a remarkable yet not-so-stellar season. The Manchester Blues would go on to win the league becoming the first team to achieve a Premier League quadruple. However, they would fail to defend their continental treble by bowing out against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Moreover, Arsenal were contenders for the league title until the very last day. Furthermore, the Citizens would lose out the FA Cup to an inconsistent Manchester United squad. Given the high standards set by Pep Guardiola’s men, many consider this season as rather rudimentary.
Nonetheless, City’s feat of winning the league is still great! Especially, since they were trailing to both Arsenal and Liverpool at a point of time. Additionally, injuries to key players like Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland was no help to City either.
However, it did provide a platform for players like Julian Alvarez to showcase their abilities. Consequently, the Argentinian rose to the occasion and was a crucial player in City’s league title triumph.
The rise of Julian Alvarez at Manchester City:
Alvarez began his player career in the youth academy of Atletico Calchin in 2014. Subsequently, the Argentinian made a move to River Plate’s youth academy after a couple of years. He made it into the River Plate first team in 2018.
Followingly, Manchester City would cash-in on Alvarez for ยฃ14 million in January 2022. However, they would allow him to play on loan at River Plate until the end of the season. Alvarez would go on to score 54 goals in 122 appearances for River Plate.
Thereafter, Julian Alvarez would win the treble with Manchester City in his debut campaign. Furthermore, Alvarez would etch his name in the history books becoming the first ever player to win the FIFA World Cup and the continental treble in the same season.
Although, Alvarez would mostly feature as a substitute in his first season at the Etihad. But, injuries would open up space for Alvarez this season. Consequently, the Argentinian featured as a starter for City more often. Alvarez has scored 36 goals in 103 appearances for City so far.
The 24-year old has so far won 32 national caps for Argentina scoring 8 goals. Furthermore, 4 of those goals were scored in the World Cup!
European Heavyweights lurking around the 24-year old!
Barcelona are keen on securing a move for the Argentinian. However, finances could be an obstacle for the Blaugrana. Many Saudi clubs are willing to price away Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona. Although, the Polish striker doesn’t want to leave yet. But if Saudi make an irresistible offer it would be hard for Barcelona to deny considering their economy. Moreover, this way they could probably make an โฌ100+ million offer for Alvarez.
Luis Enrqiue’s Paris Saint Germain are also looking for a forward. Especially, since the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid. PSG consider Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as a probable candidate. But, Osimhen saga continues to prolong. Henceforth, Luis Enrique has given green light to Julian Alvarez move.
Moreover, Alvarez is also quite content at City. The forward spoke about his time at City last year, stating:
โThe truth is I’m very happy at Manchester City. I’ve been at the club for a little more than a year. I feel very happy with everything we’ve achievedโ.
Nevertheless, PSG are more than capable of tempting Alvarez away by offering a good pay package with plenty of playtime. City fans will be hoping for Alvarez to stay given his talent and contributions at the Etihad.
