Manchester City can have some competition in search of their goalkeeper replacement for Stefan Ortega. City are monitoring the situation of Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson as alternative for Ortega. Although, he joined Manchester City on a free transfer in July 2022 from Arminia Bielefeld in Germany. The 31-year old has been impressive as a backup for Ederson leading side to FA Cup glory last season. The Sky Blues are getting some interest for their backup short stopper and may unload him.

His latest appearance was against Newcastle United at St James Park last week owing to an injury for Ederson. Surprisingly the German declined a move to Bayern Munich over Manchester City last year. However, the club can make some profit as a good fee is expected for Ortega. The German’s ambition to regularly play first-team football could impact the Sky Blues’ hopes of keeping the goalkeeper. Nevertheless, they are ready with the replacement for him as Anthony Patterson. Though, fellow clubs like Arsenal Liverpool can challenge them for the transfer. The Sunderland man is subjected to a great interest for some top European clubs.

Despite Patterson having a contract till 2028, the Championship side can release him if a huge sum of money is splashed. The Englishman has conceded 30 goals in 27 Sky Bet Championship appearances so far this season. Owing to this, Sunderland are currently bidding to reach the play-off places. The treble-winners have started to look for the replacement already in case the 31-year old German player decides to leave next season. Nonetheless, Pep Guardiola’s side is currently on the path of another title challenge as they sit two points behind the league leaders Liverpool.
