Manchester City Monitoring Wolves Winger

With Julian Alvarez on the verge of completing his move to Atletico Madrid, Manchester City will now focus on replacing the Argentine. Replacing such a vital player will be a tough task for the EPL champions. One player Manchester City is said to be interested in is Wolves winger, Pedro Neto. Whether the Portuguese international would fit into Pep Guardiola’s squad is not entirely certain.

Is Neto a Good Fit for Manchester City?

Pedro Neto was among Wolves’ standout players last season, despite being out due to injuries at times. In 24 matches, he scored 3 goals and made 11 assists for Gary O’Neil’s side. His technical nature, skills, creativity, dribbling, and pace were notable attributes of his performance. At his best, he has the potential to be one of the most dynamic wingers in the Premier League. However, the question remains whether Manchester City needs another player who can operate in wide areas.

Pep Guardiola’s squad is filled with some of the best players in Europe. Furthermore, there are too many players in the wing for one to be able to name. Each player is a talented winger in their own right. Given this depth, it seems Manchester City does not urgently need another wide player. This factor alone might rule out Pedro Neto as an option to replace Julian Alvarez.

There is, however, one aspect that makes Pedro Neto an appealing prospect for City. The Portuguese international has the ability to play in various positions. Neto played on the wing and through the middle in the previous season. But it is uncertain that such reasons would be good enough to seal a spot in Man City’s current squad.

Alvarez’s exit leaves Erling Haaland as the sole striker in the team. It would be wise for the club to look for another centre-forward in lieu of a winger. There are no news or links to a striker as of now.

James Ducker of The Telegraph reported that Manchester City has shown interest in Pedro Neto. However, Ducker does not elaborate on the extent of this interest. This ambiguity leaves fans and analysts questioning whether City will pursue Neto or look elsewhere for Alvarez’s replacement.

Alvarez Demands More Game Time

Meanwhile, Football Insider claims that Alvarez’s desire for more first-team football and a preference for a warmer climate are some of the factors in his  step to leave Manchester City. The Argentine has reportedly grown restless with Guardiola’s tendency to exclude him from big matches and has decided to move elsewhere, with no interest in joining another Premier League club.

Although Guardiola had hoped to retain him, the manager’s policy of allowing unhappy players to leave made an exit inevitable. Once the player let his intention known, there remained very little doubts about his future.

As the transfer window progresses, there will be many players who will be linked to Manchester City. Pedro Neto is one of these players. There are arguments both for and against the club pursuing the forward. Only time will tell whether the City hierarchy will move for one of the Premier League’s most dynamic wingers.

In the meantime, City fans will closely monitor transfer developments, hoping that the club can find a suitable replacement for Julian Alvarez. Whether that player is Pedro Neto or another talent remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: replacing a player of Alvarez’s caliber will be no easy feat.
