After an amazing 2022/21 season, Manchester City won the Premier League as well as the Carabao Cup. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get their hands on the Champions League title. As we kick off the new 2021/22 season of the Premier League in less than two weeks, Manchester City have scheduled a Pre-Season.

Manchester City Pre-Season fixture:

Manchester City kicked off their Pre-season campaign by playing Preston North End. City won the game 2-0 courtesy of a beautiful free-kick from Riyad Mahrez and also Samuel Edozie.

Manchester City featured club captain Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez, Benjamin Mendy, and goalkeeper Zack Steffen.

Upcoming Fixtures:

Meanwhile, Manchester City will play Barnsley next. Although City are supposed to playing ES Troyes AC. But due to coronavirus quarantine restrictions, the fixture has been cancelled.

Pep Guardiola is without the majority of his first-team so the academy players would get a lot of chances. Benjamin Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, and Fernandinho are all expected to be in the lineup.

What does the Pre-Season mean for the youngsters?

Pre-season is that time of the season when the youngsters are given minutes to showcase their abilities. Manchester City are missing the majority of their main team so we could see the likes of Yan Couto, Cole Palmer, and Liam Delap in the lineup.

Yan Couto plays in the right-back position. Celtic have been chasing the Brazilian to join them on a season-long loan.

Cole Palmer made his senior debut last season. Meanwhile, Palmer had 19 direct goal involvements in 16 Premier League 2 matches last season. He recently signed a new five-year contract with the club, having made his first-team debut against Burnley.

The 18-year-old striker Liam Delap is wanted by a number of Championship clubs. Certainly, if Delap puts in a good shift in the pre-season, he could cement his spot.

To sum up, Manchester City kicks off their season in the Community Shield against FA Cup winners Leicester. Later, they kick-off their Premier League campaign by facing newly-promoted Norwich City.
