Manchester City is taking on Liverpool on Sunday in what is to be the biggest match in the Premier League. The match could decide the title as both teams are off by a point and would decide the title. Ruben Dias is to miss the key fixture owing to injury.
Ruben Dias picked up an injury during the FA cup game against Peterborough United. The injury sidelined him for up to 4-6 weeks. The defender has been out of commission since early March having missed out 6 games. With the Liverpool game coming up, City will surely miss his services.
Ruben Dias arrived at Manchester City from Wolves in 2020 and has been amazing so far. In his debut season for City, he managed to win the Player of the Season award. This just goes to show the caliber of the man. Dias continued his form into the following campaign until injury struck him in the final hurdle. Now, City is to miss the services of Ruben Dias.
How will his absence affect City?
City will surely miss Dias against Liverpool. Ruben Dias has exceptional defensive qualities which made him Guardiola’s Number 1 choice at the backline. However, City are not out of options. City have Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake as a backup. City have been using the center back partnership of Ruben Dias – John Stones all season. However, now they have to use someone else instead of Dias.
Laporte will be a great center back partner for Stones as he has been at City for some time now and has partnered with Stones. His experience will be vital against Liverpool. However, Guardiola can also utilize Nathan Ake who has been in tremendous form in the last couple of matches. However, Ake and Laporte haven’t been as central to the role as Dias was, so Liverpool are more than likely to target them as the weak link and press them. Although, both are exceptional defenders in their own right and have more than what is required to keep Liverpool attackers at bay.
