Manchester City

Manchester City star Ruben Dias has recently made a huge claim about one teammate. Dias says that he was surprised that midfielder Bernardo Silva stayed at the club.

The Sky Blues claimed a historic treble last term and are on the hunt to do so again as they look strong in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. Moreover, Pep Guardiola’s side are now on an unbeaten run of 11 games with most recent win over FC Copenhagen. During the game, Bernardo Silva scored the second goal for his club as they won 3-1 in the first knockout leg.

Ruben Dias shocked by Bernardo Silva’s decision

Bernardo had been repeatedly linked with a big transfer for years but no solid offer was ever made. However, all these uncertainties came to an end when he penned down a contact at Etihad till 2026 last year. It was a result that made Dias very much happy. He said,

At a certain moment last summer I thought he might go but I always tell him that every summer we have this series which is called ‘Bernardo is going nowhere.’This is the third summer since I have been here and there is a new episode every year.

I was really happy when he signed because if you want to win trophies Bernardo is exactly the kind of player you need around you.”

Despite having the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Jeremy Doku in summer, Silva was still very much important. The Portuguese has been one of the most remarkable and best player on the ball for Pep Guardiola. Losing him would have had certain consequences for the club in the season.

The club witnessed the departure of Ilkay Gundogan, Aymeric Laporte and Riyadh Mahrez in the same window. The trio was very vital in City’s treble-winning campaign. City faced upheaval at the start of the new season after undergoing so much change and it would have been made worse if Bernardo wasn’t there.
