Manchester City are looking to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo. Araujo has been stalling his contract and the current contract runs till the end of the 2023 season.
Manchester City have one of the best backline pairings in Europe. They have the best defensive record in the Premier League. City have just conceded 18 goals in the Premier League this season. City also possesses the second-best defensive record in Europe, only topped by Sporting CP. Their Centre Back pairing of John Stones and Ruben Dias have worked wonders for them and their defensive record proves it. Not only do they have such capable defenders, but they also have the services of Aymeric Laporte who has been tremendous for City in his years at the club. And the cherry on the top is the young Nathan Ake, Slowly transitioning to Guardiola’s playstyle.
Guardiola doesn’t really need a defender from the looks of it but the reigning Premier League Champions want more. They are looking to buy Ronald Araujo from Barcelona. Buying Araujo is like pouring Petroleum into a burning fire. Araujo is looking to move away from Barcelona as they are unable to fulfill his wishes. And the Uruguayan wishes not to extend his contract. City are ready to swoop in for the 23-year-old as soon as possible.
Barcelona’s Decision
Barcelona had made it clear that Araujo has refused to commit to his contract. Due to this, Barcelona are to sell the Uruguayan in the summer as they don’t want him to leave for free the next summer. The Blaugrana wants to make maximum profit from offloading players in the summer and it seems like Araujo is of the many. According to several reports, Guardiola had dinner with Araujo’s agent. A move for Araujo seems more very likely given the conditions.
