There have been many exhilarating clashes at Anfield down the years between these two clubs. City ran riot with a 4-1 success in the 2020-21 season. On the other hand, Liverpool can only boast one win from their last seven against Guardiola’s side in all competitions. Although, that win did come at Anfield – a 3-1 victory in their triumphant 2019-20 season.
Until now Liverpool is unbeaten in 10 competitive fixtures at Anfield. Additionally, they have scored at least three goals in each of their last six games since last month’s 3-0 win over Leeds United. But, Pep Guardiola’s defence is proving to be near-impenetrable in the league this term.
The two giants occupy first and second place in the Premier League table after six games. Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sits one point above their title rivals.
Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Thiago Alcantara will not be available for the visit of Manchester City.
The England right-back has a muscle issue, and the Spain international, a calf problem. Consequently, both will miss the club’s final game before the upcoming international break.
Midfielder James Milner looks set to be in contention for Alexander-Arnold’s spot. Although, manager Jurgen Klopp could consider Joe Gomez for the position.
Manchester City has no fresh injury concerns following their Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.
While midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will remain on the sidelines with a thigh injury. In addition, left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is out with a calf problem as well.
However, manager Pep Guardiola is hopeful both players will be fit to return after the international break.
