Manchester United and Chelsea have shared a long rivalry. United signed four new players in this summer window, including Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. On the other hand, Chelsea have signed ten new players this summer. They recently completed the signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.
Keeping up the rivalry, United are on the verge of signing a new player that was targeted by Chelsea previously.
United are set to sign Manuel Ugarte from PSG
Manchester United have made some big signings in this summer transfer window to fill all the pieces in the squad. Starting with Dutch sensation Joshua Zirkzee from the Italian side Bologna, followed by Leny Yoro from Lille, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich. Now the board believes that there is one more position that the Red Devils need to improve before the end of this transfer window and that is the defensive midfielder position.
According to CaughtOffside, United are linked with Uruguayan midfielder, Manuel Ugarte from French side PSG. The 23-year-old joined PSG last season only from Sporting CP. However, before joining the French side, the Uruguayan was linked with Chelsea for a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea were very close to making the deal happen last year. However, the Blues failed to do so and Manuel Ugarte joined PSG instead. Now, Manchester United are set to do what Chelsea failed to do one year ago.
Is Manuel Ugarte the perfect replacement of Casemiro?
Manchester United are pushing so hard to land Manuel Ugarte before the end of the transfer window. Right now English international Kobe Mainoo and former Real Madrid man Casemiro are two main options available in the Manchester United squad for the defensive midfielder position. United started the new Premier League campaign having both the players in the starting lineup. But Casemiro’s age is something is needs to be considered. The Brazilian international is 32 years old and could leave the club soon.
So, a new defensive midfielder will be perfect for Erik Ten Hag who can be partnered with young Kobe Mainoo and help the United team in the midfield zone. Manuel Ugarte is just 23 years old and has a long career ahead. There is no doubt that the addition of the Uruguayan to the team will definitely benefit United.
Chelsea also linked with Manuel Ugarte last season but the Blues ended up sign Moisés Caicedo from Brighton for £115m for a british record fee. Now Manuel Ugarte again set to start his career in England, but as a Manchester United player not as a Chelsea player.
