According to Chelsea News, it is reported that Manchester United are interested in Chelsea’s left back. Ben Chilwell is not included in Chelsea’s plans for this season and the future, as told by manager Enzo Maresca. The English defender will be joining many other players that are forced to transfer out of Chelsea this transfer window. This sounds like a very unprofessional thing to happen at any major football club. However, this is happening at Chelsea, and we already have numerous victims till now. Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is running an entertainment show at the club and fans are not enjoying it.
This drama started after Chelsea decided to sack Mauricio Pochettino right before the start of the season. New manager Enzo Maresca decided to rebuild the squad. Mauricio Pochettino was unlucky due to majority of the players being injured throughout the last season. However, the manager still did well and managed to finish at the sixth place in the Premier League table. Pochettino also developed players like Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, and Conor Gallagher. The tactics were also changing with every match which made it difficult for the players to adapt. Chelsea fans were skeptical of Enzo Maresca after the manager spent only one season with Leicester City.
The beginning of Chelsea’s collapse
Chelsea started signing many players under the new owners. However, to avoid Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of Premier League, it is important to sell some players. The first victim to this forceful sale was Conor Gallagher. The English midfielder had only one year left on his contract. Chelsea did not want to repeat the same mistake of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, by letting the player leave for free. Therefore, the club forced the player to transfer to the Spanish club, Atletico Madrid, who showed a major interest in the midfielder.
After Conor Gallagher left, this become a common phenomenon in Chelsea squad. The Blues signed many players this summer and have a squad of over 45 players. It is obvious all these players cannot get enough game time and many of them will be sold. However, Chelsea are forcing some players to leave by not allowing them to train with the first team or use the training facilities as well. Many players like Romelu Lukaku, Ben Chilwell, and Raheem Sterling are becoming the victims to this treatment. Fans are furious with this treatment of club’s senior players. Moreover, manager Enzo Maresca has separated his preferred players from others.
Manchester United are interested in Ben Chilwell
It is clear that Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca prefers Euro winner Marc Cucurella over Ben Chilwell. This could very well mean the English defender’s time with Chelsea is over. Chilwell is still a great player, who helped Chelsea win the Champions League three seasons ago. Many clubs are in need of a great left-back and will try to sign Ben Chilwell. One of the clubs interested in Chilwell are the Premier League giants, Manchester United. Due to Luke Shaw and Tyler Malacia’s continuous injuries, Manchester United’s manager, Erik Ten Hag, will be looking for options to reinforce the left-back position.
However, just like Luke Shaw, the Chelsea left back also has a bad injury record. This fact can make it difficult for top clubs to invest in the player. Also, the fact that Chilwell is nearing his thirties, could also be a factor that might influence the decision to sign him.
Chelsea will try to offload as many players as possible before the transfer window closes. The Blues will be pushing for this deal with Manchester United and would hope it will happen soon. United recently signed Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich but with the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, they have limited options at full-back positions.
