According to rumours, Erik ten Hag has urged Manchester United’s management to sign Hakim Ziyech.
Chelsea are in talks with AC Milan over a sale of Ziyech, and the singer has had significant negotiations. Ziyech is looking for a move away from Stamford Bridge due to limited game time. Thomas Tuchel has often preferred Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic over the Moroccan.
On the other hand, Manchester United’s primary target for the right-wing position is Antony of Ajax. However, the Red Devils have been priced out of a move for the Brazilian winger. Ajax have no intention to sell one of their best players. The Dutch titans recently increased their asking price to €100 million (£84.1m).
Ziyech To United: Good Move?
Ten Hag is eager to bolster his attacking midfielder lineup. His alternative to Antony is another player who once played for Ajax under him, Hakim Ziyech.
Ziyech is a supremely gifted footballer. He was a part of the famous Ajax side that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019 under Ten Hag. He even scored in the semi-final against Spurs.
It is understandable why the Dutch tactician is eager to reunite with Ziyech. His creativity can help United unlock dfences, while providing competition in the squad.
However, it is said that there is division among the United leadership regarding a transfer for the 29-year-old. This is the reason why they have not yet officially contacted Chelsea.
Injuries derailed Ziyech’s debut season after he moved to Chelsea from Ajax in the summer of 2020 for a fee of €40 million (£33.3 million). Ziyech later struggled to maintain a consistent role in the club last season under Thomas Tuchel. In the 2021/22 season, he made just 14 Premier League starts.
A move to a different place can surely help Ziyech. Whether United is that place, remains to be seen.
