Manchester United recently confirmed Lucia Garcia’s departure from the club. The 25-year-old spent two seasons at with the club. In the 2022/23 season, she managed to net 8 goals in 20 Women’s Super League games and in the recently concluded season she scored 3 goals in 20 league appearances. Garcia was an influential player for the Red Devils. Moreover, she helped Manchester United win their first major trophy which was the FA Cup last month. The 25-year-old scored twice in United’s 4-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley. Although the Red Devils wanted her to stay, it is speculated that her exit is due to Mary Earps’ departure. The 31-year-old goalkeeper is out of contract this summer and is close to completing a move with Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
Players that could follow Garcia’s exit from Manchester United
Besides Mary Earps and Lucia Garcia, there are other Reds that could possibly depart this summer. Another forward that could leave the club is Nikita Parris. The 30-year-old scored 8 goals in 21 league appearances in the last season. Moreover, she was a key player in the Women’s FA Cup. Nikita netted 5 goals in 4 FA Cup games. Additionally, Manchester United captain, Katie Zelem, chose to leave the club following Earps’ exit. Zelem came to United’s academy at the age of eight but started her senior career at Liverpool. The midfielder then moved to Juventus for a year before returning United. Zelem played a key role in helping the Red Devils get promoted to the WSL in her debut season. However, with her contract expiring this summer, she will leave as a free agent.
The Red Devils are close to signing a striker from Brighton and Hove Albion
According to reports, Manchester United are signing the Brighton and Hove Albion striker, Elisabeth Terland. She was Brighton’s top goal-scorer last season, with 13 goals in 22 league games. Her performance attracted top clubs, however, the Red Devils were ahead in the race to sign her. Manchester United have several names on their list for this summer, with many of their star players set to exit soon. It will be a massive deal for Marc Skinner’s side if they add Terland to their squad. The 22-year-old helped the Seagulls stay away from relegation and she could become a valuable player for Man United. Losing Terland will be a big blow for Brighton, however, the Red Devils are keen on signing a deal with the striker. Additionally, the 22-year-old was happy at Brighton, her contract expiry this summer could push her to move away from the Seagulls.
