Manchester United have stunned Pep Guardiola and Manchester City on their home turf with 2-1 comeback victory. It is a stunning result for the Red Devils as they looked done and dusted till the 88th minute. All it took was a moment of magic from young man Amad who turned the game on its head.
It was Amad who earned the penalty which led to the equaliser coming from it. Just a few minutes later, Amad scored a sensational goal after a stunning long ball from Martinez. His first touch and his composure to round it off Ederson left football fans all across the world in awe. Manchester City didn’t really create anything apart from the goal coming from a set piece situation. Much needed three points for the Red Devils while the Cityzens ship continue to sink down further.
“Manchester by the sea”: Pep Guardiola’s Manchester is under the sea.
Its all going catastrophic for Pep Guardiola and his team at the moment. It’s not the team which won four Premier league titles on the row. The team has completely lost its confidence and their identity along with their belief and mentality. Earlier Manchester City had the capability to score three goals after conceding two. Now it’s the polar opposite. Even the players have stopped playing for the manager.
They’ve registered only 1 win in their last 8 games which is a catastrophic stat for their standards. Conceding poor goals has become a habit for them now. It seems like someone has seriously cursed this team. This game against their Manchester rivals accross the town, was never going to be easy. The Red Devils are also in a tough patch sitting on 12th position in the table. However, it was the difference in mentality between these two teams in this clash.
Veterans like Kyle Walker and Ederson have completely stopped playing for the badge. Such a disastrous performance from players of such high experience is not at all expected. Although there have been plenty injuries, with the players available they should be doing way better than this. Pep Guardiola will need to go back to his basics otherwise if things continue like this, the team will sink further deep into the sea.
Is the new era of Manchester United Amorim-ball “special”?
Lots of fans are speculating whether Manchester United are finally back in their original form. All the faithful want to see their club relive their glory days from the past. However, it’s too early to say if this derby victory is the beginning of something special. It was a brilliant win showing immense strength and dedication but they must remain consistent and stop making mistakes at the back.
Manchester United are quite weak at the back. They must improve on set-piece situations as teams have found this as a weakness to exploit against them. Even in the derby, the Cityzens took the lead from a set piece situation which was poorly marked by the defenders. Surely the manager will address to these problems at the back soon.
Author’s opinion:
Both the clubs in Manchester are under immense pressure and it’s high time they start performing to keep the spirit of their badge alive. For now the Red part of Manchester will claim all the bragging rights and will celebrate this well deserved victory. I feel that Manchester City players simply let their heads down after they conceded that penalty and never really had a chance to comeback into this game.
Pep must find replacements for Walker, as his game has gone down to massive levels. A defender must know when and whom to mark players, only having a player with pace doesn’t help at all. A mountain to climb for Manchester City. Liverpool are surely not getting troubled by them this season.
