Manchester United latest: Garnacho & Mainoo to Stay

Latest news on Mainoo and Garnacho, the duo likely to stay at Manchester United despite reports of PSR concerns.

Manchester United keen to keep Garnacho & Mainoo

Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim says the club is keen to keep the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. There are talks on their contract extension as well.

Despite the club’s financial pressures and PSR concerns, they’re willing to keep the talented youngster duo.

So far Utd have only won four of Ruben’s 12 games in charge. They sit on 13th in the Premier League table.

The Portuguese international took charge in November. The club has assured it’s support in Amorim for rebuilding the squad in the transfer market. Although, the funds are limited by the profit and sustainability rules.

Reportedly, Utd have lost $139m in the financial year to June 2024.

As academy products, any fee received for Kobbie and Alejandro would appear as 100 percent profit in the books.

Some reports claim that the club were therefore ready to receive offers for the pair.

Garnacho & Mainoo’s Future at Manchester United

The Argentine winger has been attracting some interest from clubs like Atletico Madrid and Napoli. The Red Devils are looking an offer around £70m for their player.

Before his big move to Old Trafford, the winger started his career as a youth player at Atleti.

The 20-year-old’s game time has been limited in the recent weeks. Since he was left out of the squad in the Manchester Derby last month, his playing time has been less. It was a hard-fought 2-1 derby win for them.

Amorim’s newly adopted 3-4-3 system has got the manager thinking on how to use the young forward.

Under former manager Erik ten Hag, Alejandro was a regular starter for the side. He started in every one of the 38 league games of last season.

It was expected that the striker would be open to an opportunity for a new start. With a similar environment under Atletico manager and compatriot Diego Simeone, he would’ve been a great fit.

Meanwhile, Mainoo’s longer contract negotiations have interested the clubs like Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

However, Utd want to keep him and they see him as a key player of their future. They maybe open to sell their academy graduate for a high-price fee only.

He ended his incredible debut season by scoring the decisive goal in the FA Cup final win over PL champions City.

The England international has been in a decent form. Featuring in a tough draw at Anfield against Liverpool and a notable FA Cup win over Arsenal at the Emirates.

Amorim’s Take

In a press conference, Ruben said, “I really love my players. I want to keep my players, especially the talented ones.

“It’s a special moment in this club, it’s hard moment, but, of course, I’m really happy with Kobbie, he’s improving, and also with Garna.

“When we are targeting players, we need to be sure that they will cope with the demands.

“I also said we have to improve our academy, to bring young kids that fills the club in the right way, and also with those rules, we are able to do some business and have some money to invesy in the team.

“Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players that we build for this club.

“We know the position that the club us in at the moment, but we will see. I’m very happy, I like our players, especially the guys from our academy.”

He has previously stated that the new arrivals should be better and stressed the need to improve the academy to help save some money in the transfer market.

Author’s Opinion

The quality that Mainoo and Garnacho possess at this age is extraordinary. The reported decision to keep the pair at Old Trafford will surely be of immense help in the future.

With other academy graduate, Marcus Rashford leaving this month, the Red Devils may be looking for his replacement as well.
