Manchester United legend Paul Scholes recently talked about the striker crisis at Arsenal and asked the Gunners to sign a new striker in this summer transfer window. Paul Scholes believed that Arsenal should go for a new striker this summer and that striker would be Brentford’s current number nine and English international Ivan Toney. Paul Scholes also said that he would be the perfect player for the Gunners for the number nine position.
Ivan Toney’s recent performance
Ivan Toney’s performance with Brentford in the last two seasons is something to watch. The 28-year-old enjoying his time with Brentford currently and scoring goals for them. Although he only made 17 appearances last season because of injuries, Ivan Toney continuously kept good form with Brentford. Since he joined the club in 2020, he kept scoring goals and providing assists. In his last 141 appearances with Brentford the English international bagged 72 goals while providing 29 assists. His brilliant performance caught the attention of Gareth Southgate and Toney got a spot in the England squad for the Euro 2024.
Will Ivan Toney join Arsenal this summer?
Rumors have been going on about Ivan Toney’s future since the start of the summer transfer window. Arsenal are also very much interested in signing Ivan Toney. And recently United legend and former English international Paul Scholes added fuel to this rumor as he said that Arsenal should consider Ivan Toney as their next number nine. Scholes believes that if Toney joins the Gunners, he will be able to score around 25 goals in a single season. And for Arsenal that will be a huge benefit. Scholes also said that Ivan Toney would perfectly fit the Arsenal system and could ultimately help the team.
Arsenal are very much interested in signing a new number nine this summer. Currently, Mikel Arteta is using Kai Havertz for the center forward position. Brazilian international Gabriel Jesus is also available for the striker position but his form deteriorates in his recent form. Another two strikers including Reiss Nelson and Edward Nketiah could leave the club this summer. Newly promoted side Leicester City are recently linked with Reiss Nelson, while French side Marseille are interested in Edward Nketiah. This leaves too much space in the squad for the attacking section.
So, a new number nine will be perfect for the Gunners. Arsenal previously also linked with Ivan Toney, but no official offer has been made for the English international till now. Earlier Brentford was stuck with 80M for the 28-year-old Ivan Toney but later on, they reduced their demand and now they are willing to sell Toney with a 50M price tag. So, Arsenal have to pay close to 50M for Ivan Toney if they want to sign him.
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice could help the Gunners to complete the move of Ivan Toney. Rice previously raised his recent performance and will be very happy to have him in the Arsenal squad. Rice and Ivan Toney both were part of the England squad for the Euro 2024 and both of them spent good time with each other.
