Manchester United ‘make contact’ with Ousmane Dembele

Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Ousmane Dembele and his representative to discuss the Frenchman’s future.

Spanish outlet El Nacional report that the Manchester club have made contact with Dembele, expressing a desire to bring him to Old Trafford.

Barcelona are said to be in talks with the winger over a new contract. The Catalan club are determined to keep him at Camp Nou on a long-term basis.

However, as it stands, Dembele would be free to hold talks with Manchester United in January over a possible move next summer.

Dembele has struggled with a number of injury problems since joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in August 2017. But, he is still capable of the truly sensational moments of magic. Former Barca President Josep Bartomeu shelled out an initial €105 million for his signature.

The youngster has made 118 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions. He has scored 30 goals and contributed 21 assists in the process.

Dembele a potentially good signing for Manchester United?

Dembele is yet to play for Barcelona this term through injury. There remains speculation surrounding the forward, with his current deal due to expire next June.

Should Dembele fail to agree to a contract extension with the Spanish club, he will become a free agent this summer. Thus, making a move for him would be both financially sensible and viable for Manchester United.

Additionally, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial look increasingly likely to depart this summer. According to Eurosport, United have informed Martial he is free to leave the club, but they will only accept offers nearing the £40 million mark for his services. As such, Dembele has the potential to be a cost-efficient alternative as a free-agent.

If the 24-year-old can stay fit, United would be adding a young talent with time to develop to an already exciting front line.
