Manchester United: Nemanja Matic leaves!

Manchester United are to rebuild the squad in the Summer under Erik Ten Hag. The Manchester United board will give Ten Hag a sizeable transfer budget. He is to bring in players that will fit his playstyle. A lot of players will be shown the exit. One of the first happens to be Nemanja Matic, who announced on his Instagram that he is leaving in the Summer.

Used as a Rotation player, Matic filled in the spot for Fred and McTominay every other week. Matic started off as a center back united but under Jose Mourinho, he moved forward. United always got the best out of Matic as he used to play in the pivot role and controlled the game, Much like Sergio Busquets for Barcelona. As he aged, Manchester United started using him less and he switched from an important role to a sporadic one. However, Matic bossed the midfield whenever the opportunity arrived. Old Trafford will surely miss the services of the midfielder.

Matic’s Thoughts

Matic recently opened up in an interview and discussed about Manchester United, the Dressing room, and team morale.

He said,

“The atmosphere? It depends on the results. Of course, when you have good results the atmosphere is much better and everyone is happy.”

“As you know, we are not in the best position in the league and the atmosphere is not fantastic but we have to stay positive and believe until the end because we want to finish in that top-four. The atmosphere in our dressing room will depend on that. If we finish top-four then it will be good for us, everyone will be… I cannot say happy, but satisfied. If we don’t make that, it will be a very sad dressing room.”

Matic also went on to add that Ralf Rangnick is trying his best and the United players are behind him.

“He is trying his best and we are trying to follow his ideas. Only at the end of the season, when we see the table and see where we are, then we can speak more about this. At the moment, what I can say is that Ralf and his staff, and us as players, are doing our best.”

A good place for Matic to go would be Roma where he could play under his former boss Jose Mourinho. And since Serie A is a slower league, Roma could potentially get a good couple of years off Matic.
