Manchester United reportedly struck a deal with Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, as per Spanish source Nacional cited by Manchester Evening News. Manager Erik ten Hag promises Lunin a secured position if he joins. With Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS team onboard, Manchester United faces a crucial summer, eyeing extensive squad alterations. Several players face potential sales amidst a turbulent season.

Ratcliffe, a lifelong Manchester United supporter, has assumed control of football operations of the club. Despite ongoing challenges, progress has been reported in their pursuit of a new goalkeeper.

In January 2024, Ten Hag aimed to secure a new goalkeeper due to the departure of first-choice Andre Onana, signed last summer for £47.2 million, to represent Cameroon at AFCON.

Concerns about the ex-Inter Milan player’s aptness faded following a series of stellar displays. Thus, establishing him as one of the team’s top performers this season. Though he struggled in the Champions League, his Premier League form at Old Trafford proved a pleasant revelation.

Manchester United prioritizing goalkeeper reinforcement for the summer window

Altay Bayindir, who arrived alongside Onana, has played only once, indicating Ten Hag’s desire to strengthen the goalkeeper position. Real Madrid’s Lunin, praised as ‘tremendous’ by Dani Carvajal, is the top target, with Manchester United leading the race for his signing.

Nacional reports Ten Hag and his team have finalized a deal with the Ukrainian international, a summer priority for the Red Devils.

Madrid, led by President Florentino Perez, aim to prolong Lunin’s tenure due to his impressive stand-in performances. However, they’ve struggled to secure a contract extension, risking his departure for free. They might opt to sell him to avoid losing value, presenting an opportunity for potential buyers like Manchester United.
