Manchester United preparing an offer for Thomas Meunier

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are looking to sign Thomas Meunier. Currently, United only has Diogo Dalot as the only player in the role. As things stand, Manchester United have to fight off competition from Barcelona to sign the player from Dortmund this season. Barcelona have also expressed an interest in signing the player this season.

Meunier has a contract till 2024 with Borussia Dortmund. Meunier is a great backup/upgrade to Diogo Dalot in the right back. However, the transfer can happen if United can successfully offload Aaron Wan Bissaka. According to the Telegraph, Crystal Palace are interested in signing the player this season. United are ready to let AWB go on a transfer fee worth £ 10 million.

This is a huge loss of £40 million for United as the player arrived at Old Trafford for a fee of £50 million. He has had a dismal and disappointing stint at United. Moreover, a move to Palace might resurrect his career following his horrible performance at Old Trafford.

Barcelona’s Sergino Dest is also on United’s radar this season for the right back position this season. However, United’s priority for the right back position is Meunier. The Red Devils had their sight set on Meunier the last time they wanted to sign a right-back but they went for AWB instead. Now, United want to sign the player for a fee of €15 million.

Meunier claims he cannot say no to joining United

While United have not made an offer for either, a move for Meunier is more likely than a move for Dest. The player is a fan of the club and would prefer a move over to Old Trafford. Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, the Belgian admitted that he would find it very difficult to turn down a move to United or Barcelona

Imagine, Dortmund are already a big club, but United, that is unique,” he continued. “Just like Real, Bayern and Barca are in their way…… In principle you don’t say ‘no’ to such clubs. Mentally it was not easy. But I understand Dortmund, it was barely a week before the end of the window
