Manchester United have been linked with Lisandro Martinez and Red Devils have reportedly, tabled a bid for him
According to sports journalist Hernan Sisto, Manchester United have set their eyes on the Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. And, To supplement this interest, they have (reportedly) offered Ajax a bid of £35million.
Martinez is one of the prized assets of Ajax and they seem pretty reluctant to let him go. Moreover, Ajax want more than £35million for their star defender. They are looking at a transfer fee worth £ 50 million.
Ten Hag’s focus is on the United midfield. United are in pursuit of Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona. They are currently deeply entrenched in talks with the Spanish side for a De Jong sale. However, the United defence needs a lot of work too
Defense woes of the Reds
Manchester United’s defense was not up to the mark the last season. They had abysmal numbers in defense even though they had names such as Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane in their midst. Manchester United conceded 57 goals last season in the Premier League. This is four more than the relegated Burnley team.
Lisandro Martinez might be the key player for Ten Hag here. The argentine thrived under Ten Hag at Ajax. He made 36 appearances for Ten Hag in the 2018 season. Moreover, he fits perfectly as Ten Hag’s preference for left center back. His versatility means that he can also provide cover as a left-back and as a defensive midfielder.
Martinez made 7 appearances for the Argentinian national side. He was a member of the team that won the Copa America last year. He also was an unused substitute in the Argentinian team that defeated Italy to lift the Finalissima earlier this month.
The defense along with the midfield needs a lot of tweaking this year. If Ten Hag can get his combinations right in the defense, then Manchester United has a decent chance of a top-four finish next season
