Manchester United ready to battle Newcastle over Tosin Adarabioyo move

Manchester United are not ready to give up on Tosin Adarabioyo and will be battling Newcastle for the defender’s signature. Adarabioyo’s contract will expire this season and he may leave Fulham as a free agent.

Adarabioyo drew interest from Manchester United, Newcastle and Chelsea. However, Newcastle were leading the race for the 26-year old defender. Although, now Manchester United are ready to fight Newcastle for the Englishman.

Who is Tosin Adarabioyo?

Tosin Adarabioyo is an ‘athletic ball-playing center-back’. Moreover, he is fast, strong in the air and a threat in the box from set-pieces. Moreover, Adarabioyo has good tackling ability, positional awareness and can read the game in defensive scenarios.

Adarabioyo rose through the ranks in Manchester City. His senior career began with The Citizens in 2016. However, Adarabioyo enjoyed two loan spells for West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Later, Fulham acquired the Englishman from the Etihad in 2020. Unfortunately, Fulham were relegated to the EFL Championship in Adarabioyo’s first season at the club. However, Adarabioyo’s consistently good performances helped Fulham to win the EFL Championship, earning a promotion back to the Premier League in 2022.

For his remarkable contributions, Adarabioyo earned a place in the PFA Team of the Year and EFL Championship Team of the Season for 2021-22 Championship.

Why do United want Adarabioyo?

Manchester United have had defensive issues throughout the season. The Red Devils have appeared very fragile and vulnerable and ended the season with a -1 goal difference. Erik Ten Hag was left with no defensive options due to unavailability of players because of fitness issues. The Red Devils endured a humungous 65 different cases of injuries/illness this season.

Erik Ten Hag had to play Casemiro and Amrabat as center-halves, out of their original position in the final games of the season. Additionally, Raphael Varane has confirmed that he will be leaving Old Trafford as a free agent after the end of the season.

Moreover, injuries have plagued Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire struggles to be consistent for the Red Devils. World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez has also struggled with his fitness. Jonny Evans is already 36 and won’t be getting any younger.

In this scenario, Adarabioyo could be the key for Ten Hag and United. Not just young, but the Englishman would also be an economical option for The Red Devils.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe also has plans for Adarabioyo. With Fabian Schar and Sven Botman at the back, Adarabioyo could be a good young, cost-cutting option for The Magpies.

However, United are yet to give up on the defender. The Red Devils will try their best to lure the Englishman back to his hometown. Additionally, the rich legacy of Old Trafford could also play a key factor.

Eariler, Chelsea were also linked to the 26-year old. Now, counting Chelsea out, Tottenham, AC Milan and Liverpool are also in the race for the youngster.

What’s next for Manchester United?

Manchester United have had a horrible season. In addition to their defense blown to smithereens, The Red Devils finished 8th on the Premier League table. This is the worst ever finish in the club’s history.

United will be facing City in a Manchester Derby at Wembley for an FA Cup final in a second consecutive year. A win at Wembley for United may help the Red Devils end the season on a positive note. However, beating Manchester City won’t be easy.

The Red Devils are undergoing changes in staff under Sim Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. Player changes will also follow and United will be busy in this transfer market window. An exciting summer awaits The Red Devils.
