Manchester United Should Steer Clear Of Neymar

PSG have made Neymar available for sale this summer. The Ligue 1 giants are willing to let the Brazilian go, provided a suitable offer comes in. We all know how talented Neymar is, making him an attractive prospect to several clubs. Manchester United are one of the clubs that could be his potential destination.

Recent rumours claim that Chelsea were trying to engineer a move for Cristiano Ronaldo. Neymar could take his place at Old Trafford if the Portuguese international were to quit the club. However, the Red Devils must steer clear of the former Barcelona man.

PSG in recent years have spent big on stars without caring much for the football side of things. Their constant failure and meltdowns in the Champions League are a testament to that. In several cases, the Parisians have looked at the marketability of a player over his attributes and whether he would fit in their system. This has led to an unbalanced, top-heavy squad.

It looks like they are trying to move on from that. The appointment of Christopher Galtier, a relatively low-profile coach is a move in the right direction. And the potential sale of Neymar makes this change more evident.

Why Neymar to United Doesn’t Make Sense

Neymar is prone to injuries. He has missed 56 games over the past three seasons due to a variety of injuries.  This is a huge problem, especially when you consider the astronomical wage he would command.

He is also not the kind of player United should be looking at. They too in recent years have made similar mistakes to PSG. Neymar is 30 now, and United should be looking at younger players. An old winger on big wages will be the antithesis of what Erik Ten Hag is trying to build. Positionally as well, Neymar does not make sense. He is a left-winger, where United are currently stacked. They are in the market for a right-sided attacker, like Antony

Dedicating so much to Neymar—reportedly including a €50 million cost-plus his salary package can lead to Ten Hag’s entire project being derailed. United should concentrate on developing young players who have the potential to become stars instead. If Manchester United have learnt front heir earlier mistakes, they will not chase Neymar. It is a signing which is too much of a gamble.
