Manchester United vs Arsenal: Match preview, team news, and predicted line-ups

Manchester United will host Arsenal at Old Trafford and Michael Carrick is confirmed to be in charge of Manchester United and not Ralf Rangnick. The Red Devils sit 8th on the Premier League table as they are 1 point behind 7th placed Tottenham. They were one of the title contenders at the start of the season. United will head to this fixture with a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea last weekend, which was a good result considering their form. Arsenal have recovered quite well from their horrific start to the season. They are now 5th on the table and 5 points ahead of Manchester United even though they were in the relegation zone at the start of the season. The Gunners will have confidence going into this fixture as they defeated Newcastle 2-0 comfortably in their previous fixture.

Although United have appointed Rangnick as their interim manager, Michael Carrick will be in charge against Arsenal. United will be just 2 points behind Arsenal if they are to win this fixture. The Red Devils have a season to recover and this fixture could help them in that process.

Manchester United

The Red Devils are without Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, and Raphael Varane and are still doubtful about Luke Shaw’s availability due to a head injury. Moreover, Harry Maguire will return in time from his suspension and he might start for United’s tie against the Gunners. Even though Eric Bailly had a good performance against Chelsea but he may be dropped to make place for Maguire to return. Ronaldo is unlikely to be benched for such an important match again. As a result, he may replace Marcus Rashford in the starting lineup as Michael Carrick will keep his midfield-heavy with the 4-3-1-2 system.

Manchester United possible starting line-up

De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Telles; Matic, Fred, McTominay; Fernandes; Sancho, Ronaldo

Arsenal

Arsenal have only two confirmed long absentees due to injuries and they are Sead Kolasinac (ankle) and Granit Xhaka (knee). Furthermore, Saka went down clutching his groin during a victory against Newcastle, and Arteta later confirmed that the 20-year-old was suffering from a muscular injury. In addition, the England international also finished sixth in the Kopa trophy this year. As a result, this may give a chance for Martinelli to start ahead of Saka. Martin Odegaard returned to the lineup on Saturday for Arsenal and ended Alexandre Lacazette’s run in the starting lineup, and it’s unlikely to see the Norwegian losing his place against Manchester United.

Arsenal possible starting line-up

Our Predictions

Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal

Even though both teams have a must-win fixture against each other but they may end up cancelling each other. Moreover, Arsenal have a good record against Manchester United for the past few seasons. Nevertheless, the fact that they may miss Saka and Aubameyang misfiring chances may haunt them later. In addition, United are performing a bit better than they were performing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Therefore, Arsenal cannot underestimate United and will have to be cautious of what United will have in their pockets.
