After failing to progress in their last four semi-finals, the Red Devils would be eager to end their last four hoodoo and progress to the final.
Roma will be desperate to improve their dismal Old Trafford record. They have registered just one win in their last seven matches at the Theatre of Dreams.
Following their shock Champions League elimination, United have been unstoppable in Europe’s second-tier club competitions so far. They have decimated the likes of Real Sociedad, Milan, and Granada to reach the semis.
The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 17 home games in the Europa League. They have won 13 and drawn four games, winning their last five matches in a row. Domestically, they are ten points behind current leaders Manchester City on the league table.
Roma are in good form in the competition being unbeaten in their last six Europa League matches. However, they have struggled domestically, losing two of their last three league games, going down 3-2 to relegation threatened Cagliari in their last match.
Star striker Edin Džeko has also hit a rough patch lately, failing to score in his last 12 Serie A games. However, Roma would be hoping that Europa League’s joint top scorer Borja Mayoral can make a difference in this all-important away leg.
TEAM NEWS AND INJURY UPDATES
The hosts will welcome back captain Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay after serving their one-match suspensions in the quarter-final second leg. Marcus Rashford would be in contention to start after he overcame a foot injury and played on Sunday.
Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani would be returning to the starting eleven after they were on the bench against Leeds. However, United will be without long-term injury absentees Anthony Martial and Phil Jones.
Ex-United boys Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan would be in contention to start after both came back from injuries and played last week. Leonardo Spinazzola and Stephen El Shaarawy are also available after they returned to the bench on Sunday.
However, Paulo Fonseca will have to do without the services of Pedro, Ricardo Calafiori and Nicolo Zaniolo who are all yet to recover from their respective injuries.
PREDICTED LINE-UPS AND MATCH PREDICTION
Manchester United: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Pogba, Fernandes, Rashford; Cavani
AS Roma: Lopez; Cristante, Smalling, Ibanez; Karsdorp, Diawara, Veretout, Spinazzola; Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan; Dzeko
Score Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 AS Roma
United have been in good goal scoring form despite last week’s minor blip against Leeds. Confidence is currently sky-high in the Old Trafford camp, and Solskjaer would be motivated to remove the semi-final blemish from his reign.
Roma are not in the best of spirits coming into the game, and have conceded in 9 of their last 10 games. We don’t see them curbing United’s fast paced counter attacks.
