It is the English versus Spanish final as Manchester United gets ready to take on the Spanish club Villarreal CF in the finals of UEFA Europa League 2020-21.

Manchester United will be eager to finish their season with some silverware after missing out on the league title. They finished 2nd in the Premier League table. The Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is yet to win a major trophy with Manchester United. He would be keen to get his hands on the Europa League trophy.

While on the other hand, Villareal finished their La Liga campaign with a disappointing loss to the eventual runners-up Real Madrid. The Yellow Submarine, who hold on to the 7th spot in the domestic league table will be looking to win their first-ever Europa League trophy under Unai Emery.

Manchester United vs Villareal: Match Preview

Manchester United will be coming into this match as favorites to win the title. The Red Devils are struggling with their current form. They have won only 2 matches in their last 5 fixtures. However, they surely deliver when it comes to Europa League. Solskjaer’s team will be full of confidence coming in this match with a win in their last match. United defeated the Italian side Roma in the Semi-finals to reach all the way to the finals. Although Ole once said that trophies are just to satisfy egos but everyone knows how important trophies are to manchester United.

On the other side of the turf, Villareal coach Unai Emery defeated his former club Arsenal to take his team to the first-ever Europa League finals. The Spanish club is on a similar run as of their opponents winning 2 games in their last 5 matches. However, Emery knows they will be coming into this match as the underdogs, and it’s always dangerous to face a team that has nothing to lose.

It will be a fascinating battle to watch. On one side there is Ole, who will take Manchester United to its first major League final under him. And on the other side is a team, who will be playing their first-ever Europa League final in the history of the club.

Talking about Manchester United first. They will most likely be without the service of their Captain Harry Maguire, who is fighting back from an ankle injury. While Solskjaer doesn’t give any positive signs of him returning in the finals.

Apart from that long-time absentees Phil Jones and Anthony Martial will also be missing the showpiece event for Manchester United at Gdansk.

On the other hand, Villarreal will miss Tottenham Hotspur loanee Juan Foyth, who is facing a race against time to fight back from a hamstring issue. While Chukwueze, the attacking midfielder will be in doubt as per Emery.

Manchester United’s probable starting lineup: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Rashford, Fernandes, Pogba; Cavani.

Villarreal probable starting lineup: Asenjo; Gaspar, Albiol, Torres, Pedraza; Trigueros, Capoue, Parejo, Yeremy; Moreno, Alcacer.

Manchester United 2-1 Villarreal CF

Looking at the respective league positions of both the teams it should be quite comfortable for Manchester United. However, final against a team that has nothing to lose is never comfortable. However, we can’t see Manchester United losing to a team that has finished 7th in the La Liga table.
