Manchester United vs Young Boys: Match preview, team news, and predicted line-up

United Young Boys, Six Sports

Manchester United will host Swiss Young Boys in their last Champions League group stage match at Old Trafford. This is the second time in three years that the two teams have been drawn in the same group.

Ralf Rangnick will be taking charge of his first European game for Manchester United. He will be delighted by the fact that the team has already qualified for the last 16 and could make some changes in the team. This will help him get a better look at some of the squad players.

Manchester United has turned a corner since the sacking of previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They are four unbeaten in all competitions winning three and drawing one against Chelsea.

The Red Devils have already qualified to the round of 16 with a game to spare. They will end the group stage as group winners. This means they could rotate their squad and rest some players as the games are coming thick and fast.

United’s new interim manager has stated in his post-conference against Crystal Palace that there will be some changes to the starting lineup. The German is keen upon giving game time to some of the players who were not part of the Palace game.

Young Boys, on the other hand, have no chance of qualifying to the knout out stages. Unfortunately for them, their Champions League journey ends here.

They could still finish 3rd and make it to the Europa League. For that to happen, they will need to win their game against Manchester United and Villareal must beat Atalanta in their last game of the group stage.

The chances of that happening are a little slim, but you can never rule out any possibilities in Football.

Manchester United vs Young Boys: Team News

Manchester United

The English side will be without the French duo Varane and Paul Pogba as they are sidelined due to injuries. Edinson Cavani will also seemingly miss out due to injury.

English full-back Luke Shaw might make his return into the first team after missing out on the past few games.

This will be a completely changed united side. It will be a surprise if anyone from the Crystal Palace game makes the starting 11 in this game, besides one of the center-backs.

Possible Manchester United starting line-up

Dean Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw; Matic, Van De Beek, Lingard; Greenwood, Martial, Elanga.

Young Boys

For Young Boys, David von Ballmoos, Cedric Zesiger, Christian Fassnacht, Jean-Pierre Nsame, Ulisses Garcia, and Felix Mambimbi will all miss the fixture against Manchester United through injury.

The Swiss side will want to field their strongest line-up in order to get a result that would send them into the Europa League but will be without some key first-team players.

Possible Young Boys starting line-up

Faivre; Hefti, Burgy, Lauper, Lefort; Aebischer, Martins, Rieder; Elia, Siebatcheu, Ngamaleu

Our Prediction

Manchester United 3-1 Young Boys

Young Boys will throw everything they have at Manchester United to get a result out of this game but the United squad will be too good for them. Even after rotating the squad considerably, the new manager boost will get United through this game quite comfortably. The United players will be eager to show the new boss that they are capable of first-team football.

Young Boys will try to attack the home side and end up leaving space behind. United’s quick forwards will relish the opportunity to get behind the Young Boy’s backline and cause some trouble for their keeper. United will be too hot to handle for the away side.
