Manchester United made an initial offer for Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton. However, the Toffees have rejected the Red Devils’ bid for the young centre-back.
The Manchester Reds will be having a rather busy transfer window. Especially, since the confirmation of Erik Ten Hag as their manager. The Red Devils had a immensely disappointing campaign finishing with more than 80+ goal concessions in all competitions. Moreover, United would finish on a record-low 8th place in the Premier league for the first time in their illustrious history.
However, Erik Ten Hag would manage to salvage the season by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Additionally, the Red Devils also managed to secure a Europa League spot for the upcoming season.
While the Red Devils would be keen to reinforce their roster, Profit & Sustainability Rules remain a concern for INEOS. United can’t go all out despite the fact that numerous changes may be desired. However, several players will also be on their way out of Old Trafford.
Manchester United opened the transfer window with strong intentions sending a £43 million bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. However, Sean Dyche’s side have rejected the offer and feel that Branthwaite is worth more than United’s current valuation.
Everton unhappy with Manchester United bid for Branthwaite!
Branthwaite remains a top target for Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United. But, Everton want to sell the 21-year old for no less than a £65/70 million fee. The Toffees will no doubt be looking to cash-in heavily on Branthwaite. Especially, considering his inclusion in the England squad for EURO because of his impressive performances at the Goodison Park.
Moreover, despite being of a young age, Branthwaite’s professionalism as a footballer is quite remarkable. Branthwaite was asked about the links with Manchester United in April, however, the defender chose to spoke about giving his best for Everton instead. The 21-year old center back said:
“You have just got to block it all out. I think if you focus on the outside stuff, you get distracted from what you need to do on the pitch.”
Many believe that United’s pursuit of Branthwaite is justified. The 21-year old could be an excellent pairing at the back alongside world cup winning Lisandro Martinez. The young defensive duo could form a fortress at the Old Trafford. Branthwaite is strong in the air and is no stranger to physical battles. Additionally, Lisandro Martinez is aggressive and not shy of going for the ball.
The two would greatly complement each other’s playing style and induce a sense of stability at the back. Something, that United have lacked in abundance in the previous season having suffered heavy defeats at the hands of unlikely oppositions.
If United are able to secure Branthwaite move and find the right tactical setup, their defense could be robust for quite a few upcoming seasons.
United ready with backup if Branthwaite move collapses!
The Red Devils are considering Ousmane Diomande and Jean Clair-Todibo as potential replacements. Moreover, United are seriously in contention for signing Leny Yoro from Lille. Some reports suggest that the Red Devils have already made an offer close to £51 million for Yoro.
However, Ligue 1 record champions PSG remain interested in the defender. Additionally, United are not the only English side in the hunt with Liverpool and Chelsea keen for Yoro.
Lastly, Real Madrid are pushing in for signing the youngster. However, the Los Blancos aren’t going to go all out for the 18-year old considering he has just another year on his contract. Madrid are keen to sign him on a bargain, provided Yoro doesn’t leave this summer.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils will be hoping to secure both Branthwaite and Yoro as defensive options. Especially, considering that Raphael Varane has left the Theatre of Dreams for free. Jonny Evans could also be leaving. Moreover, Harry Maguire has been inconsistent at the club level and Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez have proven to be injury prone. Consequently, leaving Willy Kambwala, who remains inexperienced.
Fans will be keen for INEOS and United to push forth and make some real moves in the market.
