According to RedGol, Marcelo Bielsa has a chance of returning to management with Bolivia. The Bolivian national team has once again failed to make it to the World Cup. They are now in the bottom half of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers. They will need some help from an elite manager to help them reach the World Cup next time.

Marcelo Bielsa was appointed as the Leeds head coach in July 2018. He went on to win the Championship in the following season to promote Leeds to the Premier League. The Whites did well in their return to the Premier League finishing in the top half of the table. They also missed out on the European Conference League by just three points.

However, Leeds United were battling to avoid relegation this season. They were fighting the likes of Watford, Burnley, and Norwich City at the bottom half of the table. This led to Marcelo Bielsa losing his job at the club. Later, American manager Jesse Marsch took place of Bielsa at Leeds. He had a slow start but two wins in two games have restored Leeds fans’ hopes.

This is what Fernando Cost, President of the Bolivian FA had to say about contacting Marcelo Bielsa to take over

“We are in contact, I’m not going to deny that we are having some line of contact with the manager. We still haven’t talked to him, but we are close to doing so. We want to give him all the support. We know that Bolivia has a lot of talent and that going to a World Cup isn’t that far away.”

Why Marcelo Bielsa taking over at Bolivia will be perfect for the Argentine manager?

The Argentine boss has a reputation for improving and getting the best out of the smaller teams. Although he has not won many trophies, he has still inspired many coaches and remains one of the most respected managers. It will be difficult for him to find a job at the club level after a disastrous season with Leeds United.

Bolivia is a country that is developing in terms of football. Bielsa could again work his magic to get the best out of the Bolivian national team. The players will also be less tired as they won’t have to train with Bielsa’s ‘murder ball’ for the whole season. He can help them reach the World Cup in 2026 and has enough time to work out his plan.

His management style could change the mentality of the players and increase their hunger to win. He installs a very high work rate among the players. Moreover, Bielsa could also be more suitable for South American football since he himself is an Argentine. However, Bielsa has to make a few altercations to his tactics to defeat even the big clubs.

Although he will be a good appointment, there is still doubt whether he can help Bolivia win trophies. His ideology of open gameplay also hurts his results. Bolivia is in contact with other options available to hire. He has coached Chile and Argentina before and has had a good record with both national teams. Bielsa will lift up the Bolivia squad but does not look like an option in the long term.
