Mikel Arteta’s team are currently only four points behind Liverpool. Although, the Reds have a game in hand. They are comfortably sitting at the top of the table as of now. They’ll will be against the PL champions Manchester City in the coming weeks. That fixture will be very important for the title race.
Pep Guardiola’s men have struggled a lot this season. Slowly they are getting their confidence back. They gave their best game of the season so far when they scored four against Newcastle Utd on Saturday.
Arsenal to fight Man Utd for Mateo Retegui
Mikel Arteta’s team are already linked with a lot of potential new arrivals ahead of he summer window. They were expected to bring a new forward to the Emirates during the January window, but no signings were made in that transfer market.
As per reports by CaughtOffside, the north London side have joined the race with the Red Devils to sign Atalanta’s star forward.
The report suggests that the London club is already in touch with the Italian side over a potential move. The Italian forward being the subject of the talks. The 25-year-old attacker is currently leading the golden boot race with 20 goals so far in the Serie A this season.
The Italy international is in a great form in all competitions this campaign. If he continues to carry on with this form until the summer, he’ll surely get a lot of attention from top European clubs. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him at the Emirates Stadium next season with the current run of games he is having.
The rumours have that Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Aston Villa are also interested in the Italian. CaughtOffside added that the Italian side Atalanta, would be asking for €60 million (£50 million) for their main forward’s signature. That fee is way less than what the likes of Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres could go for in the summer.
According to Football London: “Mateo Retegui leads the race for the Serie A golden boot with 20 goals. That’s more than the likes of Moise Kean, Marcus Thuram, Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez and Dusan Vlahovic. The Italian has enjoyed a brilliant season and he could be real coup in the summer. He’d certainly be an upgrade on Kai Havertz, that’s for sure.”
Following Arsenal’s win over Leicester City, Mikel Merino has been getting a lot of praise
Following his team’s 2-0 win over Leicester City, Merino marked his amazing cameo with a happy post on Instagram. He amazingly captioned the post with: “Number 9′ day at work”.
The Gunners defender William Saliba has called Merino as the best striker in the world. Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Myles Lewis-Skelly also praised the Spaniards performance by commenting on his Instagram post. Although one comment from Saliba stood out. Under his post, the France international wrote: “Best striker in the world (love heart eyes emoji).”
