Matthijs de Ligt happy at Juventus amid Chelsea links

Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt insists he is happy in Turin amid claims that he could be on his way to Chelsea next summer.

Chelsea have recently been linked with the defender, after a deal for Jules Kounde broke down during the previous window. An agreement couldn’t be agreed between Chelsea and Sevilla for the Frenchman’s services.

Despite having the best defensive record in the Premier League so far having only conceded one goal, Thomas Tuchel wants to add another world-class centre-back to his squad.

Chelsea’s failed pursuit of Jules Kounde over the summer means that the Blues will look to bid for another of their targets. Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in the Dutchman.

De Ligt to leave Juventus next year?

To add to speculations, De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola said his client could leave Turin at the end of the season.

He told Tuttosport: “Matthijs de Ligt is one of the best centre-backs in Europe. He could leave Juventus at the end of the season.”

But De Ligt hasn’t suggested he is looking for a new club and said that he ‘feels good’ at Juventus under the management of Massimiliano Allegri. He insists he is ‘happy’ at Juve.

“I feel good, I feel good with Allegri too.

“He has a lot of attention for the defensive phase, it’s very important, I worked a lot and I’m happy.”

De Ligt was labelled as the best young centre-back in the world in his time at Ajax. As a result, that earned him a £70 million move to Juventus in 2019 at the age of just 19.

The 22-year-old still has three years left on his current contract in Turin. De Ligt has made 79 appearances for Juventus since arriving from Ajax in 2019. He has started three of his team’s four matches in all competitions so far this season.
