Max Verstappen is known for his no-filter mouth and short-tempered nature, something people reckon he has got from his father Jos Verstappen.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull share a long and strong relationship. Verstappen has been with the team ever since he joined Formula 1.
The relationship seems to be getting stronger every year. Verstappen himself has hinted on multiple occasions that he doesn’t see himself driving for any other team anytime soon. The Dutchman has already signed with the Milton-Keynes-based outfit until 2028.
However, like every relationship, it wasn’t smooth sailing all the time. There were bumps along the path.
Red Bull was not able to provide Verstappen with a championship-challenging car for quite a long and Verstappen himself aired his frustrations on numerous occasions publicly.
After such a dominant season in 2022, one can argue that the rants are a thing of the past now. This season saw Verstappen being rather calm and happy with the team with few outbursts on the radio.
However, Jos Verstappen reckons that these nudges and arguments are healthy for the relationship. Talking about the angry Verstappen after the Singapore GP qualifying, Jos said:
“For example, in qualifying in Singapore it didn’t go quite as it should, but then Max really hits his fist on the table,” he told ViaPlay. “That’s how it should be! He won’t let it happen, he won’t accept it.
“Max sends it and demands that also from Red Bull. He gives 100 per cent, but he demands that from everyone.”
Jos is hopeful that his son stays with the Red Bull team for even more years to come.
“If Red Bull continues to do what they are doing now, I think we will have a good five years,” he added. “It’s a team, it has to do with people, with the organisation. At Red Bull that works perfectly in collaboration with Max.
“But also the team itself, just look when Schumacher went to Ferrari. He took half the Benetton team with him and then it worked. I hope Ferrari continues to do as they do now [laughs].”
Red Bull looks to wrap up the 2022 constructors’ championship in Austin at the 2022 US GP. Verstappen clinched his second world title in Japan.
