Max Verstappen indicated a retirement from Formula 1 after his contract ends in 2028 as he might consider other options in the future.
Max Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix to clinch his second World Title in a row.
After winning his first title with Red Bull, the Dutchman signed a bumper deal with the team. The deal binds Max Verstappen with Red Bull till the end of 2028.
He is currently the driver with the longest contract on the grid and looking at his form we can understand why. Anyways, there are 6 more years till 2028 which means 6 more seasons and that is a lot of time.
By the end of 2028, Max Verstappen would be over 31 years old. He would have participated in 14 complete seasons of Formula 1. Looking at the increasing popularity and length of the F1 calendar he definitely would have completed 100 more race starts if not more. The Dutchman already has 159 race entries.
What after 2028 for Verstappen?
So, looking at all these stats we can say Verstappen would have done a lot of racing by the time his contract expires.
So, what will the Dutchman do after 2028?
There is no doubt he would still have a lot of racing left in him. 31 years is not that old to quit Formula 1. The determination Verstappen has while driving an F1 car is impeccable so we can say he would still have a “lot of fuel in the tank“.
However, the question is if he wants to continue after 2028. Max Verstappen dropped a hint about his future in a recent interview. The Dutchman was asked how long he will continue to dominate the sport to which he replied:
“It can be a long time but in the end, I don’t see myself driving until I am 40 because I also want to do other stuff.
“I’m having a lot of fun with what I’m doing right now and I’m still in F1 for a couple more years. I’m signed until ’28.
“After that, it depends on how everything is going. I will probably try to do a few different racing things as well because it’s important to try different things.”
The 25-year-old is currently just planning to enjoy his second title by flying back home:
“I’m flying home.
“I already planned that for whatever would happen at the weekend.
“It’s important to sometimes rest a bit but once I get home, for sure, you can relax a little bit but at the same time, look forward to the remaining races.”
Max Verstappen said this after winning his second world title in Japan.
