Mbappe’s current form symbolizes the condition of the entire France national team. The French have somehow reached the semi-finals of the Euro.
French campaign in Euro 2024
It is clear that the fans are not happy with Mbappe’s performance. In Euro 2024, France has scored only once from open play. Other than that, France have scored from penalties.
Austria’s own goal has helped them to progress in this tournament. In the semi-final, they faced Spain, who are currently playing fluent football. Although Randall Kolo Muani scored the first goal from Mbappe’s cross, Lamine Yamal equalized the score line with France.
These incidents prove the frailty of France national team. In this entire tournament, they haven’t been their best. That is the reason for their elimination from Euro 2024.
In each and every position, France lacked effort. Spanish attack exposed the French backline. Defenders like Joules Kounde, William Saliba, and Dayot Upamecano struggled to defend against Spanish attackers like Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.
France were lucky. That is why they qualified for the semi-finals. Fans can’t recognize the 2018 World Cup-winning team. This France team is lacking depth in every position. The midfield of Camavinga, Rabiot, and Kante struggled to find stability.
Mbappe’s performance and France
In recent matches, Mbappe’s performance has drastically declined with the France national team. In Euro 2024, he has failed to score a single goal from open play. He only provided a single assist. On top of that, Mbappe had some goal-scoring opportunities against Spain. Unfortunately, he missed those chances.
There is a big reason behind Mbappe’s low-level performance. The reason is his fractured nose. So, the doctor gave him a face mask. According to Sky Sports he said about the mask, “I asked to be taken off. At half-time in extra time, I told him [France coach Didier Deschamps] that I didn’t feel it anymore, that I was too tired.“
There was a moment, when Mbappe smoothly penetrated the Spanish defense but he blasted the ball outside into the stadium. Another shot he took which went straight to Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Mbappe’s recent games have disappointed the fans. He has certainly loose his sharpness. After this tournament, the Frenchman will be unveiled as the new Real Madrid player.
The fans are hoping that Mbappe will regain his old form at the Los Blancos.
The emergence of a new gem
This year, football world has seen the meteoric rise of La Masia talent Lamine Yamal. Currently, he is playing at the top level. If Mbappe keep on showing these types of mediocrity in his performances, Yamal and other young players like Jamal Musiala can occupy his throne.
This years Ballon D’or race will be an interesting one. The final of Euro 2024 will decide a lot of things in football. At one side, there is Jude Bellingham from England. If the Three Lions win Euro 2024, Jude will have a better chance get Ballon D’or.
On the other hand, Vinicius Junior has left behind in this race because Brazil are out of Copa America. Mbappe also had a chance to win it. This time Lamine Yamal can win the Golden Boy award.
