McDermott thwarts Brisbane Heat with classy show

Hobart Hurricanes’ McDermott proved yet again as to why he’s the best batter in the Hurricanes’ lineup as he took his team to the top four of the BBL|11.

He smashed 93 (61) and easily conquered the score of 144/8 piled up by Brisbane Heat as the latter still suffered the services of its regular members.

The only stand-out player from Heat was Lachlan Pfeffer who batted at no.3 and put up a brave fight, scoring 69 from 51 balls.

He hit three sixes and six fours in his innings that now makes it impossible to remove him from the Heat’s side.

But, the Hurricanes’ bowlers pulled back things smartly as medium-pacer Mitch Owen (2-25) and Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane (2-23) kept making in-roads into the Heat’s batting lineup.

The second batter from the Heat’s side was Will Prestwidge who smashed 21 off seven balls and tried to take his team to as best a fighting total as possible.

Innings story of the Hobart Hurricanes

The Hurricanes, in reply, lost the early wicket of Caleb Jewell who was claimed by Prestwidge and Heat looked on to claim more wickets after unleashing their three bowlers Patrick Dooley, Jack Wood, and Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

But, the game went in the way of the Hurricanes as McDermott played a fine knock and was well-supported by Peter Handscombe.

The duo put up a 117-run partnership that took the game towards the Hurricanes.

After McDermott fell, it was Handscombe (27 not out) and D’Arcy Short (12 not out) who completed the run chase for their team.
