Mercedes is ready for Mick Schumacher joining

Mick Schumacher Germany

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has made it clear that the team is willing to welcome Haas driver Mick Schumacher.

Haas F1 has still not announced who will race alongside Kevin Magnussen in 2023. The vacant seat is still up for grabs with two names coming essentially on top. Nico Hulkenberg and Mick Schumacher are in the hunt however, chances of Schumacher bagging the seat are becoming slimmer.

Schumacher will also be moving out of the Ferrari Drivers’ academy by the end of this year. This will help him get open to the opportunities of other teams.

Anyways, the prospect of Mick Schumacher joining Mercedes as a reserve driver has been looming around for quite a while now.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has also reacted to the rumors. Wolff indicates he is happy with the prospect of the German joining the team. However, he pressurizes that happening only if he fails to secure his seat with Haas.

“I don’t know what the status is with Mick at Haas,”

said Wolff.

“I think the most important thing for him is to get a racing cockpit.”

“But I make no secret of the fact that the Schumacher family is part of Mercedes, that we value Mick very much as a personality and as a racing driver.”

“That’s why we will definitely discuss this option if it arises. But the first priority has to be to end up in a racing cockpit, because that’s what he can do and deserves.

Mick Schumacher made his Haas debut in 2021 and has since recorded only two points finish – both of them coming this year. At the latest Brazilian GP, the German again failed to score any points. His teammate Kevin Magnussen, however, showed a greater pace and also secure his maiden team pole alongside one point.
