Mikel Arteta’s side has kept the Premier League title race remain wide open forcing it to extend till the last matchday. They defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford to keep their hopes alive for the title. Now, former Ballon D’or winner Michael Owen shares his viewpoint on the Arsenal vs Man United game.
A goal in the first half from Leandro Trossard proved enough to seal all three points and ensure the title race will indeed go right to the wire. The challenge of Old Trafford is always a drenching one and the Gunners gave all their sweat to seal the deal there as well.
Owen on Arsenal vs United
Speaking after the game, the ex-Manchester United star was highlighting the struggles offered by the crowd for away team. However, he praised Arteta for the way he dealt with the challenge.
“Definitely. Taking the ball to the corner flag, wasting a bit of time, their goalkeeper got booked for time-wasting. You’ve got to get over the line, it’s not easy.
It’s one of those games where they say it’s a title-winning performance, you’re not at your best and you’ve got to grind it out. They did that.”
The defensive stature of the club has also been done a commendable job throughout the season. It was their 18th clean sheet of the season, though a hard fought one. Nonetheless, Arteta will not be much bothered about this until the outcome is in his favour. The last day will be a nail biting one for sure as it is going to be a two horse race for the title glory.
Pep Guardiola’s side will be having an advantage as they have an extra game in hand. Despite this, they cannot just sit and relax as Arsenal have made it extremely tight at the top for the defending champions.
